True Pokemon Fans are legit! Not Obnoxious!

For any of us who are fans of anything (admit it. we've all got something), we like to have our fangirl/fanboy moments and rave on and on about our favorite characters or the amazing plotline or even just the sheer AWESOMENESS of it all and never give a decent explanation as to why it's even so cool. But it doesn't matter, because we are just spewing obsessiveness, right?

Well, there comes a point when we need to be real. Like, why do we actually love this game or show or movie or book or anime so much? To me, a TRUE fan is one who has a reason for their love and finds something deeper in the game/show/movie/etc. than just "awesomeness." And if there's any fan following that has amazing "true fans", it's Pokémon.

I mean, we all admit it's a kid's show. Some would even argue that the video games are pretty elementary. Yet there are still fans of Pokémon who are adults. Why? There's gotta be something deeper.

Aside from the childish dream we all have of mystical creatures with powers that we can befriend and travel the earth with....well, isn't that enough? I don't know about any of you, but the sheer thought of having a giant orange fire dragon as my best friend or an over-sized turtle with cannon turrets protecting me could keep me daydreaming for hours.

Here's where the "true fans" are seperated from the others. Every fan has a favorite Pokémon. I mean, you can't be a fan of Pokémon and NOT have a favorite Pokémon, or at least a team or group of Pokémon that you prefer above others. But do you have a reason behind your favorite Pokémon, other than "they look cool" or "they're really strong in battle so I never lose"?

As some of you know, Eevee and Lugia are my favorite Pokémon of all time. Granted, Lugia looks awesome and my level 100 Eevee never loses in battle, but that's not the only reason I love them.

I was mainly going to focus on Lugia in this journal, because Eevee seems too cliché. But I do frikkin love Eevee for adorableness and personality and other random reasons.

But Lugia....oh my gosh, I can't express how much I love Lugia (ok, sorry, trying so hard not to go into obsessive fangirl mode...) Porbably the most epic thing about Lugia is that he is considered "ruler/guardian of the sea" and he's not even Water-type. That always blows my mind. He lives at the bottom of the ocean and somewhat rules over the whole thing, yet he's a Psychic/Flying type. Bam! Also, his type doesn't control his appearance. Alot of Flying-types are just birds and he's bird-like but not "OMG! I LOOK EXACTLY LIKE A BIRD!" He just flies. And he has some purple on him like tons of Psychic-types but it's not overwhelming and he doesn't do the stereotypical meditating thing or shoot psywaves out of his mind for every attack in battle.

The main thing, though, to be completely honest, is that Lugia is pretty much me in Pokémon form. I mean, I could see being a Flying-type because I have a free-soaring spirit. And I'm somewhat Psychic-typeish. I'm usually very calm and collected (even though it doesn't always seem like it XD) and I have a couple pyschic things, like experiencing other people's emotions and having dreams that later happen.

The water thing is the main thing though. I could never see myself being a Water-type. Honestly, I'm not that great at swimming and I don't spend most of my time around water, but I do feel a deep connection to it. Something about the way it sounds and works and flows and the way Lugia flows with it....I feel a deep connection to Lugia.

Obviously, not everyone is like this. You don't have to feel like you are one with your favorite Pokémon or anything But I'm interested: What is your favorite Pokémon and WHY? It doesn't have to be super deep or anything, but do give some thought to it, because most of us don't ever wonder why we love a Pokémon so much. I didn't realize all of this about Lugia until recently. So, think about it and then answer in the comments! Can't wait to see other people's answers!
